Path cleared for new chicken restaurant to open Canton location
In case you haven’t heard, there’s a trendy fast-casual chicken-centric restaurant coming to Ford Road in Canton — and we’re not talking Raising Cane’s.
During Monday’s Canton Township Planning Commission meeting, commissioners voted unanimously in favor of removing two conditions of a 17-year-old rezoning statement that will making the opening of Byrd’s Hot Chicken more palatable for its owner.
Byrd’s is slated to open a location in the Canton Corners shopping complex, which is on the southwest corner of the Ford Road-Lilley Road intersection.
One of the two conditions (that were adopted in 2007) prohibited restaurants and food service in the building, which is located just west of Outback Steakhouse. Township Planner Patrick Sloan pointed out that the Planning Services Division has allowed carryout types of restaurants (Buddy’s and Luca Pastry) in the building, so that condition was removed.
The second condition prohibited left turns (while heading west from Ford Road) onto Morrison Drive, a north-south side street that is close to the building Byrd’s will occupy. Sloan observed that there is currently not a sign where Morrison and Ford Road meet that prohibits left turns, so that condition was removed.
Sloan said the planning division does not foresee Morrison becoming a cut-through street, which eliminates the need for a no-left-turn condition.
What to know about Byrd’s
Byrd’s Hot Chicken opened its first southeast-Michigan restaurant recently in Novi.
Byrd’s bills itself as “spicy fried chicken and other dishes with a cultural fusion of culinary traditions”.
It’s website also promoted Byrd’s as, “Comfort Food With A California Twist.”
Ya gotta try the Byrd Bomb
In addition to wings, tenders and sandwiches, Byrd’s offers the one-of-a-kind Byrd Bomb, which consists of diced chicken tender, cheese, slaw, 24k sauce and pickles served on a bed of fries and toast.
It also offers chicken nuggets, kids meals and a unique dessert item called chick ‘n donut, which is a juicy chicken tender served with a hot, glazed donut, a side of fries, 24k sauce and pickles.
If that doesn’t make you salivate, nothing will.
