Local couple’s New Year blessed by baby 32 minutes in
Just 32 minutes into 2023, Rachael McCarty and Richard Zimmerman knew it was going to be a special year for their growing family.
The couple welcomed the first baby, Lilleth Kathryn, for Corewell Health East, the new name for Beaumont Health, who was born at 12:32 a.m. on Jan. 1 at its Grosse Pointe Hospital.
The bundle of joy, weighing 7 pounds 0.4 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches long, was welcomed by the proud parents, both 27 and living in Roseville.
Growing family
Lillith will be welcomed home by two brothers – one born in December 2021 and the other born in February 2020.
When asked if there were plans for the family to grow more in 2024, Rachel quipped: “Oh, no, we’re done I think.”
Rachael’s due date was Jan. 4.
“It’s weird because we kind of had a feeling, like we were taking bets,” McCarty told the Detroit Free Press. “It’s kind of surreal because it wasn’t exactly after midnight … and they told us that, I was like, ‘That’s so cool.'”
Lillith missed being the first baby born in 2023 in Michigan by 10 minutes.
Mayven Pierre Clark was born at 12:22 a.m. at DMC Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit, WDIV-TV (Channel 4) reported. The 6.9 pound girl, born to Daysha and Romell.
