Advanced technology, expert staff fuel new Canton weight-loss center
Whether you’re looking to safely lose 10 pounds or 110 pounds, Canton’s recently-opened Options Medical Weight Loss center (41811 Ford Road) has options for you.
Staffed by an experienced team of weight-loss experts, and equipped with a remarkable, few-of-its-kind InBody machine, Options’ steady nation-wide growth is a reflection of the sterling results its patients receive.
Since launching its first site in Chicago in 2014, the brand has grown to over 30 locations, including three (and counting) in Michigan.
“Our No. 1 purpose is to reduce obesity, one patient at a time,” said Tresa Davis-Johnson, the Canton location’s clinic manager.
“Options was founded by Dr. Matthew Walker, whose grandfather passed away at a relatively young age due to weight-related diseases. Once his grandfather passed away, Dr. Walker made it his mission to build the Options brand.”
Expert staff
In addition to Davis-Johnson, who has more than 20 years of experience in the weight-loss field, Options’ staff includes Ashley Swain, a certified nurse practitioner who moved to the Canton site after working at Options’ Rochester Hills location.
“Like the name of the business suggests, we offer weight-loss options for everyone,” said Davis-Johnson. “Every one of our patients consults with our weight-loss specialists so we can learn their needs, wishes and desires.
“Depending on the membership plan each patient chooses, they can meet with our weight-loss coaches on a weekly or monthly basis. This is a medical clinic that is overseen by physicians certified in obesity medicine. If patients want to incorporate medications into their program along with our diet system, that is an option. Or they can choose to lose weight focusing on lifestyle changes with the support and guidance of their health coach and medical provider.
“A popular program at Options utilizes semaglutide, a GLP-1 medication (the generic form of Ozempic) which simulate the natural hormone produced in the intestines that helps people feel full after a meal.
Multiple programs
“While the medications can be taken long term, we have found that by coaching and supporting patients through lifestyle changes, they’re able to wean off the medications and maintain their new weight in a healthy way.”
Swain said Options’ programs include coaches staying in touch with patients up to six months after they reach their weight-loss goals.
The InBody technology was originally developed by NASA.
“It’s a bioimpedance scan that sends a small electrical current thorough your body,” said Davis-Johnson. “It provides us with 99.7% accurate body composition data. It’s 100% safe and the patients don’t feel a thing.
Davis-Johnson said Options staff are certified to do blood work on patients, too.
Inspiring journeys
Both Davis-Johnson and Swain said they’ve witnessed extraordinary weight-loss success stories throughout their careers.
“In some cases, we’re not only helping people improve their lives, we’re saving lives,” she said. “One former patient of mine who lost over 100 pounds was told by his doctor that if had not lost the weight, he would have died of obesity-related issues.
“When he started his weight-loss journey, his goal was to finish a marathon, which he accomplished with his kids watching. We see some pretty amazing accomplishments, which is what makes this job so great.”
