Canton rides J-Tram to hoops victory over Plymouth
Canton’s Jaylen Tramble defends Plymouth’s Zerry Rue during Friday night’s victory for the Cobras.
Jaylen “J-Tram” Tramble’s team-high 16 points led Canton’s boys basketball team to a 52-44 victory over host Plymouth Friday night.
Tramble was especially productive in the second half when he tallied 12 of his points to help the Cobras widen a one-point halftime lead to 38-32 with eight minutes to play.
The victory improved Canton’s record to 6-3 in the KLAA West, good enough for a second-place tie with Brighton. The Cobras and Bulldogs trailed 9-0 Hartland by three games.
Plymouth slipped to 4-12 overall and 2-6 in the division.
Not a one-man show
Tramble had plenty of help in the impressive road win. Jake Newman added 11 points, including three triples, and Zach Quigley scored nine.
LJ Jelks and Noah Tarquinto both contributed five points to the winners’ cause.

Plymouth was led by senior Zerry Rue’s 19 points. Chayse Calvin added 14, including a phenomenal and-one drive in the second half.
Cobras run away late
The Cobras seized their first double-digit lead (48-37) with 2:25 left when Wilson scored while being fouled.

Calvin closed a 49-37 deficit by four with back-to-back layups late in the fourth quarter.
Canton drained half of its 14 free throws. Plymouth was 8-for-14 from the line.
