On a brutally cold night at Northville High School, the Mustangs’ girls soccer team got a kickstart from a player named — appropriately enough — Summer.
Sparked by an early goal and assist from Summer Larson, Northville rolled to a 5-1 victory over Canton.

It was the KLAA West opener for both teams.
The Mustangs didn’t waste any time gaining momentum as Lauren Yaquinto torched the back of the net with a shot after settling a pass from Larson.
Canton freshman was superb
Thanks in part to stellar play between the posts from freshman keeper Logan Eiler, the Cobras kept their deficit at one until three minutes before halftime when Larson broke free down the left flank and left-footed a ground-hugging left-footer past Eiler, who had little chance against the dangerous Northville senior.

The Cobras upped the pressure right out of halftime and broke the goose egg on their side of the scoreboard less than four minutes into the second half when Shriya Desai ripped the ball past Northville sophomore keeper Cam Topper, who was brilliant the rest of the night.
Northville gained some separation moments later when Zaina Fakhoury pounced on a ball that was redirected by Eiler and tapped it over the goal line just before it rolled out of play to make it 3-1.
Bohlen seals the deal
The hosts all but cemented the victory with 25 minutes to play on a slick net-finder off the foot of Juliana Bohlen.

Northville’s Taylor Morrison capped the scoring with a goal in the game’s waning moments.
Among Eiler’s eye-popping stops were a first-half dazzler when she smothered a shot by a hard-charging Bohlen from just outside the goal box. As the sun was setting on the 30-degree night, Eiler dove to her right to deny Yaquinto of a second goal.
