Retired NASA astronaut/Navy SEAL delivers patriotic message in Canton

An incredibly rare visit by a true American hero drew a crowd of close to 500 people March 7 to Precision Baseball & Softball in Canton.
Christopher Cassidy, a retired NASA astronaut and United States Navy SEAL, spoke to and mingled with hundreds of Precision Patriots baseball and softball players and their families during an unforgettable night of patriotism.

After achieving the rank of captain in the U.S. Navy, Cassidy was a crew member on a Space Shuttle Endeavour flight in 2009 that ultimately docked at the International Space Station.
Cassidy was part of a crew of 13 astronauts who congregated at the ISS — a record that still stands for most astronauts in space at one time.
American hero

During his distinguished career as a Navy SEAL, Cassidy accumulated over 200 hours underwater as a pilot, navigator or mission commander of a two-man flooded submersible SDV. He also led two months of non-compliant ship-boardings in the Northern Persian Gulf.
After retiring as an astronaut and Navy SEAL, Cassidy joined the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation as president and CEO in August 2021.
An amazing story to tell
Cassidy captivated the large crowd throughout his presentation at Precision Baseball & Softball, which is located at 7835 Market St. in Canton.
In addition to players and their families, The Plymouth Fife and Drum Corp performed at the event organized by Precision Baseball owners Bill Flohr and Tom DiPonio.
Precision, which is one of the premier indoor baseball facilities in southeast Michigan, has girls softball teams from 10U to 16U and baseball teams from 8U to 18U.
