Canton’s Pheasant Run Golf Club hosts 1st Jr. Amateur Qualifier
Pheasant Run Golf Club of Canton, MI, hosted the U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifier Tournament on June 16, 2026, with 76 players from as far away as Canada competing in the event for three qualifying spots.

Presented by the United States Golf Association, the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, which is the largest amateur golfing event of its kind, is held annually for players under the age of 18 to determine the best junior golfer in the United States.
Tournament medalist Stefan Baier of Grand Blanc, MI, shot a 4 under par 68.
The second position was secured by Tommy Preseton, hailing from Grand Rapids, MI, who shot 3 under par. Christopher Quayle of Grand Blanc, MI, rounded out the third top position by shooting 2 under par.
Moving on to Pennsylvania
These three qualifying players will go on to compete in the 2026 U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship, which will be held July 20-25 at the Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA.
The top finisher from metro-Detroit was Northville’s Jack Whitmore, who fired a stellar two-over-par 74.
The inaugural U.S. Junior Amateur Championship was played at the University of Michigan Golf Course in 1948 and drew 495 entries, where Dean Lind, of Rockford, Ill., defeated future U.S. Open champion Ken Venturi, of San Francisco, CA.
Where Tiger got his start
Since then, a number of prominent players have won the U.S. Junior Amateur, including 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, who captured three consecutive titles from 1991-93.
Jordan Spieth, the 2015 U.S. Open champion, is the only other individual to win multiple Junior Amateur titles.
The first Junior Amateur Qualifier of its kind to be held at Pheasant Run Golf Club combined elite amateur competition with a chance for young golfers to earn state-level and possibly national recognition.
