Canton, Salem swim teams shine in spirited rivalry dual meet
In one of the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park’s longest and most-riveting sports rivalries, Canton’s girls swim & dive team started strong to outlast 50-years-plus campus neighbor Salem, 100-83, Thursday night.
With the victory, the Cobras wrapped up their third consecutive “Park” championship as they out-stroked Plymouth one week earlier.
Canton is also ranked 10th in Division 1 in the latest MISCA state rankings.
Canton added to its already-impressive list of state-qualifiers as its meet-opening medley relay quartet of Jasmine Pham, Tayla Smith, Hannah Gurgel and Amelia Pan registered a stellar early-season time of 1 minute, 53.21 seconds to touch six second ahead of Salem’s Madison Heiden, Reagan Kleinglass, Hannah Sullivan and Johanna Beyer.
Pan, a freshman, also qualified for the Division 1 state meet in the 200 individual medley (2:13.70) and Gurgel did the same in the 100 freestyle (53.53).
