Canton grad Robinson making impact on field and off at Missouri
Canton High School 2019 graduate Darius Robinson is making a huge impact on and off SEC football fields — and it’s due to his huge heart as much as his 6-foot-5, 297-pound frame.
On Thursday, Robinson was named to the Southeastern Conference Football Community Service Team, which was created to highlight an athlete from each SEC school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
Robinson recently started the Darius Robinson Helping Hands Foundation – a non-profit focused on providing assistance in the local community from youth to seniors who have a need.
He wore “Mizzou” on his jersey nameplate on senior night as a thank you to the University and local community.
Robinson, was one of the top players on the team in terms of time spent in the community, according to the University of Missouri football website.
Good Works team nominee
Nominated for the prestigious AFCA Good Works team, Robinson held a back to school drive in a partnership with Second Missionary Baptist Church in downtown Columbia to provide local youths with backpacks and essential supplies, snacks and haircuts for the start of the school year.
He also served as a mentor at Cedar Ridge Elementary in Fall 2023 and logged over 70 hours of community service, spending time volunteering with Columbia Public Schools, Playing 4 Hope, MU Children’s Hospital, Coyote Hill, UCP Heartland, Fun City Youth Academy, Mizzou Athletics Kids Camps, Habitat for Humanity, Tiger Tuesdays, Salvation Army, Battle High School, Harbor House, among a number of organizations.
Robinson’s on-the-field exploits have been equally impressive this season as he has played a key role in the Tigers’ 10-2 record.
Sack man
The team leader in sacks this season, Robinson has twice been named the SEC’s Defensive Lineman of the Week.
Robinson’s gridiron accomplishments are extra-special given he didn’t step on a football field until his junior season at Canton.
The former Chief, who received multiple Division 1 offers coming out of Canton, has earned high marks from NFL scouting services, who have him projected to be selected in the fourth or fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, which will be held in Detroit.
Congratulations, Darius, on your on- and off-field efforts. Canton is proud of you!
