THE TRUTH: Canton’s newest eatery offers fresh vegetarian fare

What started as a family-run street cart in Ahmedabad, India in 1975, Honest has opened its second southeast Michigan location at 7664 N. Canton Center Road in Canton.
Known world-wide for its fresh, delicious Indian-themed vegetarian menu, Honest will check at least four boxes for metro-Detroit foodies in search of a new eatery to sink their teeth into.
“What will first-time customers like about Honest?,” owner Niyat Patel asked, replying to a reporter’s question. “Our ambience, service, quality and quantity, to name four.
“What makes us different from other Indian restaurants in the area is that we make everything from scratch on a daily basis. We add no preservatives or eggs — and 80% of our 140 menu items are customizable.”
Warm and inviting interior
Opened for business on Oct. 6, Honest’s interior is warm and inviting, with wide aisles and booths with ample elbow room for diners.
Patel, who opened Michigan’s first Honest in Troy in October of 2022, said he loves the Canton location for multiple reasons.
“We cater mostly to the Indian population — but everyone loves our food — so Canton is an ideal location because of its growing Indian population,” Patel said. “We’re also a short drive from Novi, Northville and Ann Arbor, so people who love our food will have easy access to our newest restaurant.”
Patel said Honest has been a popular dining establishment in India since it was founded in 1975 in Ahmedabad.
“The feedback we have received at our Troy restaurant has been outstanding,” Patel said. “What people like most is the freshness of our food and our hospitality. We are extremely excited about opening this location in Canton.”

“What makes us distinctive from other Indian restaurants are the freshness of our food, we’re 100% vegetarian and our customizable dishes,” he added. “For instance, if something is too spicy — or not spicy enough — we will customize it for your tastes.”
Honest is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
“Honest is spreading its wings across the globe,” Patel revealed. “We are now open in several countries, with 15 locations in the United States.”
