Ypsilanti native competes on Tuesday’s edition of Jeopardy!

Ypsilanti native David DeBacker led after the first round of Jeopardy! Tuesday night and had accumulated $15,600 heading into Final Jeopardy!
Ypsilanti native David DeBacker was half way to a victory on Tuesday night’s edition of Jeopardy!, but the architectural designer ultimately finished second behind defending champion Alex DeFrank.
Leading with a score of $6,200 after the opening round (DeFrank was in second with $4,000 and Lily St. Laurent had $600), DeBacker couldn’t rally in Final Jeopardy!, going into which he trailed DeFrank by close to $10,000.
No ‘Cheers’ in Final Jeopardy!
All three contestants missed the Final Jeopardy! answer, which was, under the category of Classic TV Shows: “Posted over the door of this show’s setting was a notice reading, Maximum room capacity 75 persons.”
DeBacker, like DeFrank, guessed M*A*S*H, with a final wager of $11,111.
The correct question was: What is Cheers?
Still a winner
For his efforts, DeBacker won $2,000.
DeBacker, a 2019 graduate of Detroit Catholic Central, earned a BA degree in Architecture from Notre Dame.
During his time at CC, he was a member of the National Honor Society and Academic Team, a varsity All-American diving captain, a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, and an MHSAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
