Uplifting Kintsugi Village’s grand opening set for Detroit’s Corktown

Kintsugi Village, a dynamic new campus where creativity, learning, and community come together, will officially open its doors with a Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 11, from noon to 3 p.m. in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood.
Kintsugi Village is located at 2020 14th St, Detroit, MI 48216.
The grand opening event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a short program emceed by WDIV anchor Rhonda Walker with guests including: State Representative Tyrone Carter, Amanda Elias (Deputy Group Executive, Neighborhoods, Economic Development), Sean White (Director, Strategy – Civic Partnerships & Kintsugi Village School Founding Family), Kristin Dayag (Chief of Staff – District 6), and Kintsugi Village board members.
Event activities for the grand opening event will include guided tours, a DJ set, kids activities and food from several restaurant vendors.
Family-friendly celebration

Kintsugi Village is a diverse ecosystem under one roof: an Early Childhood Education Center, a Retreat Center, an Artist Incubator, culinary initiatives, a community garden, a pocket forest, event space, and educational programs for all ages.
It is a place where humans, big and little, come to create, grow, and connect, fostering personal transformation through shared experiences in art, food, education, and well-being.

Celebrating imperfections, highlighting beauty
Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art form that repairs broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum.
Instead of hiding cracks, Kintsugi celebrates imperfections and highlights beauty in the broken pieces. At Kintsugi Village, this philosophy is brought to life as a metaphor for resilience, adaptability, creativity, and the power of overcoming challenges together.

Kintsugi Village offers a range of innovative programs designed to nurture creativity, growth, and community:
- Early Childhood Education Center: Serving children ages 3–5, the Reggio Emilia-inspired program encourages curiosity, collaboration, and creativity with hands-on activities grounded in nature, food, and the arts.
- Artist Incubator: Emerging artists gain support through residencies, studio spaces, gallery exhibitions, and business workshops. This multidisciplinary hub welcomes visual arts, pottery, photography, and more.
- Retreat Center: Teams, companies, and community organizations will find a home for growth, learning, and collaboration in our dedicated retreat facilities.
- Culinary Kitchen: A state-of-the-art kitchen serving nutritious meals for our school, retreats, and public events while hosting classes, team-building workshops, and celebrations of food and culture.
- Outdoor Oasis: Community gardens, a pocket forest, and a light-filled garden house create spaces for reflection, sustainability, and connection with nature.
