Salem rains threes on Ypsi Community in 65-21 district romp

The Salem girls basketball program’s all-time leader in made three-point shots showed why she holds that title Monday night against Ypsilanti Community.
Playing in a first-round MHSAA District 16 game at Belleville High School, Steinhebel set the tone for the Rocks’ emphatic 65-21 victory when she delivered four made treys in the first quarter alone.
After finishing the first half with 20 points, Steinhebel rarely shot in the second half when the Rocks had all but secured the win.
Huge rematch on deck
Salem advanced to play P-CEP rival Plymouth in Wednesday’s 7 p.m. district semifinal at Belleville.
The two teams split their two regular-season match-ups, so Wednesday’s game should be compelling, to say the least.
Salem surged to a 25-8 lead after the first quarter thanks to Steinhebel’s on-point shooting and a zone press that completely frustrated Ypsilanti.
What a start!
The Rocks lead was 20-2 at one point six minutes into the contest.
In addition to Steinhebel, Stella Stotz had a nice night for Salem, netting 12 points.
The winners’ balanced scoring ledger had three players scoring eight points a piece: Natalie Lawler, Mina Newsom and Elissa Antoun.
