Salem grad Morson earns MAC Player of the Year Award
Central Michigan University sophomore Madi Morson was named the MAC player of the year.
Salem grad Madi Morson continues to prove she’s one of the best players in the Midwest — if not the country — as the Central Michigan University sophomore was named the Mid-American Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year this week Tuesday morning.
She is the fifth Chippewa to earn the special distinction.
Led by Morson, the Chippewas (18-11; 12-6 MAC) earned the fourth seed in the MAC Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Chips will open postseason play Wednesday afternoon against fifth-seeded Ohio (17-12; 11-7 MAC). The opening jump is set for 1:30 p.m.
Accolades galore
Morson, who was voted MAC Freshman of the Year in 2025, is the first Chippewa and fourth player in MAC Women’s Basketball history to win the awards in back-to-back seasons. Just 10 players have earned both laurels at any point in a career in MAC history.

Morson, who led Salem to the MHSAA girls basketball Final Four in 2024, led the MAC in scoring, averaging 20 points per game. She ranks 16th in NCAA I in scoring average this season, seventh among first and second-year players.
She scored from everywhere
Morson was dangerous every time the Chippewas cross half court, shooting 49.0 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from beyond the three-point line and 84.1 percent from the free throw line in 18 conference games.
Morson became the fastest player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points with two games to spare. She holds both the freshman (511) and sophomore (581) season points records and is eight points away from seventh in program history for a single season.
