RYKER THE STRIKER: Senior’s late goal lifts Northville over Canton

Northville senior Jack Eisman looks for an open teammate.
Call him “Ryker The Striker” or “Stormin’ Gorman”.
Just don’t forget to call Northville senior soccer player Ryker Gorman “clutch”.
One was enough
On Monday night against visiting Canton, Gorman broke a scoreless tie by surging past a Cobra outside defender on the left flank and delivering a right-footed ground-hugger just inside the left post with 11 minutes and 35 seconds remaining to propel the Mustangs to a an intense 1-0 triumph.

Northville senior captain Lucas Rhee threatened to add an insurance goal a few minutes later when he juked a Canton defender 15 yards out before sending a left-footed sizzler at the net, but Canton keeper Cameron Downs managed to keep the goal empty with a spectacular kick save.

Elevating shutout save
One of Canton’s few first-half scoring opportunities was thwarted by Northville senior keeper Connor Manhart, who elevated high in the air to secure an arching header by Benjamin Tenglin.
Tenglin’s scoring chance was ignited by a textbook free kick into the box by Joseph Hayes.
In addition to Gorman and Rhee, senior Nikola Stojanoski helped apply match-long heat against Downs, especially in the second half.
