P-CCS gets ball rolling on Salem, Canton athletics upgrades
Here is a rendering of the new building that will house a concession stand, restrooms and team rooms near the entrance of the Canton baseball field and just a short walk from the P-CEP’s grass soccer field.
Several long-awaited upgrades to the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park’s athletics facilities took a huge step toward fruition earlier this month.
Plymouth Canton Schools Chief Finance & Operations Officer Jill Minnick recommended that bids for the major upgrades not to exceed $12,544,234 be approved by the Plymouth-Canton Schools board of education at the Jan. 13 meeting.
The costs will come out of the multi-million-dollar bond passed in 2020.

Among the projects listed are the building of a new centralized concession building with a team room and restrooms to better service fans attending games at the Canton varsity baseball field and the P-CEP’s grass field.
Upgrades long time coming
Canton baseball fans, coaches and players — and P-CEP soccer enthusiasts — have been clamoring for upgrades for several years, noting the modern upgrades completed for the Plymouth and Salem softball and baseball facilities years ago.
The Canton baseball program has made due with a decades-old wooden concession stand and portable bathrooms since the original field was built in the 1970s. New team rooms will also be a part of the project.
Construction on the new building is scheduled to begin in June of this year and be completed by January of 2027.
The decaying building that serves as the East Turf Field concession stand, team rooms and restrooms will also be renovated with an expected completion date of January 2027.
Rocks will see major upgrades, too
Salem High School athletics will also see major upgrades once the bid packages are approved by the board of education.

A new multi-purpose room, set to be added near the east entrance to Salem, will be completed by September 2027. A renovation of the Salem weight room is also in the plans along with a choir practice room renovation and the replacement of the parking lot that is located east of Salem High School.
An elevator that gives visitors on the east side of the Salem gymnasium access to the stands will also be added, according to the bid package.
