New ‘famous’ burger place proposed for Plymouth’s Main Street

A burger-centric restaurant is proposed for this property at 630 S. Main Street in Plymouth.

A Famous Hamburger franchise has been proposed for 630 S. Main Street in Plymouth, the most-recent location of a massage therapy business.

The owner of Famous Hamburger will present a site plan review during Wednesday’s Plymouth Planning Commission meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. at Plymouth City Hall.

There are currently three Famous Hamburger locations in southeast Michigan: the original franchise located at 22207 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn; one in Auburn Hills, and a third site located at 44011 Ford Road in Canton.

According to details in the site plan review, the applicant is proposing to renovate the interior and exterior of the existing single-story building and change the current spa use to a burger restaurant.

The building, according to the document, will maintain its size (2,018 square feet) and the parking lot will not be altered.

Outdoor/indoor dining proposed

Famous Hamburger is proposing the addition of tables and chairs outside the facility along S. Main Street.

Famous Hamburger does not serve alcohol, so an establishment of its kind is permitted in the zoning district where it is located.

A city ordinance requires any “change of use ” — other than single-family or two-family residential — to submit a site plan to the planning commission.

Details that are expected to be discussed will focus on lighting, signage and landscaping.

Introducing new ‘Smash Burger’

Famous Hamburger, which initially opened in southeast Michigan in 1997, is a popular fast-casual restaurant featuring a menu highlighted by several styles of burgers, including The Famous Burger (two one-third-pound patties, a fried egg, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, ketchup and its Famous sauce); and its newest item, the Smash Burger (double patty, Martins potato roll, pickles, grilled onions, American cheese and Famous sauce).

There is also a wide variety of salads, appetizers, hot dogs, wraps, shakes and kids meal options.
