New burger place offers mile-high toppings, tasty ‘chopped cheese’ subs

TopUp Burgers opened earlier this month at 29111 Eight Mile Road on the border of Livonia and Farmington.
If you’ve ever dreamed of sinking your teeth into a perfectly cooked, double-patty burger enhanced with an endless number of toppings (all for no extra charge), stop dreaming.
Recently-opened TopUp Burgers, located at 29111 Eight Mile Road (on the border of Livonia and Farmington), is paradise for people who love to supplement their beef and bun with extra flavor.
“Our concept is that people can pile on as many toppings as they want … and they’re all complimentary,” said TopUp Owner Mike Salman.
“We’ve only been open a couple of weeks, but we’ve had people tell us that our burgers are the best they’ve ever tasted.”
The Livonia TopUp Burgers is the second in southeast Michigan, joining the original location that was opened close to three years ago in Commerce.
Passionate about cooking
Founder Samar Yousif, a certified chef, developed the brand and concept, said Salman, who worked with Yousif for six years before opening his own location.

“Opening this location is very exciting,” said Salman, who is from Dearborn Heights. “It’s a great adventure. It’s a lot of hard work, but when you see that work come to fruition like this, it’s all worth it.
“This location is perfect. We’re in a busy strip mall, surrounded by several communities and smack dab in the middle of a bunch of neighborhoods.”
While burgers are the eatery’s go-to menu item, they’re far from the only popular selection among the business’s fast-growing customer base.
“We’re the only place around that offers chopped cheese, which is a New York thing that we’re bringing to Michigan,” Salman said. “A lot of people never heard of chopped cheese, but once they try it, they love it.
Something for everybody
“We have a large menu that has something for everybody. We have a veggie burger, firecracker cauliflower, great fried chicken that we marinate in-house. Samar is very passionate about cooking and he makes all the sauces himself.”

There’s even a no-bun cheeseburger and a breakfast burger on the menu.
TopUp Burgers’ space is freshly-decorated and inviting.
“It’s a great place for families to stop by and enjoy great burgers and other food,” Salman said.
Along with the burgers and chopped cheese subs, the restaurant offers a long list of sides (including garlic parmesan fries and battered onion rings), along with crispy empanadas, hot dogs and fried chicken sandwiches.
In addition to dining in, burger lovers can order online at livoniatopupburgers.com or place an order via phone at 248-956-8538.
