GOLD STANDARD: Al Ameer’s Canton location opens to rave reviews
Similar to the eye-catching, illuminated sign that hangs above its new Canton location, Al Ameer’s early reviews have been colored by a splash of gold.
Designed as more of a take-out than dine-in space like the brand’s two other restaurants in Dearborn and Dearborn Heights, the Canton location’s authentic Mediterranean food items are receiving love from customers who have visited during its first week of business.
“We walked through the door and into an elegant, art deco vibe,” said Canton resident Beth Vaughn. “The food was fresh and portions were generous. The roasted potatoes are a must try — fluffy, hot and perfectly seasoned. They’re sure to be a perennial favorite.”
“Great food similar to Dearborn and Dearborn Heights locations,” another recent patron gushed. “Amazing service as well.”
Complex injected with new life
Al Ameer Mediterranean’s opening comes just a few weeks after Papaya Fruit Market — also headquartered in Dearborn — debuted in the same Canton shopping complex, on the northwest corner of the intersection of Canton Center and Hanford roads.
Menchie’s and Jungle Java are longtime, well-known neighbors of the new establishments.
A Planet Fitness formerly anchored the L-shaped strip mall.
Subtle elegance
The interior of the restaurant screams elegance. Its gold-plated decorations and marble front counter add a touch of class to the franchise that planted its popularity seed in 1989 in Dearborn.
While the recipes, authentic and fresh ingredients and top-shelf service are identical to the two original restaurants, the seating in the Canton eatery is limited to a row of approximately 10 tables that are visible from the front entrance.
An illuminated menu greets visitors on a wall to the immediate left of the front door, while a modest-sized display case with cookbooks and a few cooking ingredients sits just to the right of the main counter.
Stellar reputation
Al Ameer has earned a stellar reputation for its shawarma and shish kabob entrees.
Its impressive menu also offers a premium juice bar, smoothies, raw juices and fresh-baked pita bread “made with only the freshest ingredients,” its website shares.
“For … decades, Al Ameer has served high-quality, all-natural ethnic cuisine to a dedicated customer base,” the site adds. “The driving force behind Al Ameer is our chef-driven menu of made-to-order specialties.”
Offering a 100% halal-certified menu with options for catering, Al Ameer is open daily 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
