Fordson freshman keeper frustrates Canton in 1-1 draw

Fordson’s Akram Nassereddine and Canton’s Alexander Cosenza race for the ball during Thursday night’s KLAA showdown.

Canton threw everything except the kitchen sink at Dearborn Fordson freshman goal-keeper Abbas Mourad Thursday night on the P-CEP grass field.

Unfortunately for the Cobras, Mourad had an answer for everything, except for a high-arching rainbow goal by Canton’s  Lucas Maiolatesi 12 minutes into the contest.

Another level

Once Tractor Hassan Serhan earned the equalizing goal with 25 minutes left in the contest, Canton’s offense shifted into a higher gear, organizing dangerous attack after dangerous attack, but to no avail against Fordson’s packed-in defense.

The result left first-place Canton with a 5-0-1 record in the KLAA Black Division while Fordson is 1-3-1.

The Cobras hit one post and came close to tallying five or six more goals if not for the incredible play of Mourad, who didn’t play like a ninth-grader.
