Downriver Smoothie King opens — just in time for pumpkin spice energizers

The recently opened Flat Rock Smoothie King’s pumpkin spice-flavored items are packed with nutritious protein, not energy-sapping sugar.
Imagine consuming a pumpkin spice-flavored food item and feeling a burst of energy — not a need for a nap.
Smoothie-loving Downriver community residents — and those who don’t mind a short autumn drive through colorful southeast Michigan — are in for a treat thanks to the grand opening of Flat Rock’s first Smoothie King, located at 26842 Telegraph Road.
Smoothie King — whose motto is to “Blend a more nutritious Smoothie … from the bottom of the cup up” — welcomed people in search of delicious/nutritious edibles Aug. 29 with a soft opening.
The franchise opened its first juice bar in New Orleans in 1989, when it started “empowering entrepreneurs to help communities find pleasure in their purpose”.
“Not only is this location great,” said Flat Rock Smoothie King Marketing Manager Virginia Kamenitzer, “our staff is amazing. We’ve received a tremendous amount of positive feedback so far.
Convenience and deliciousness
“People are telling us they love all of our healthy options and the convenience we offer. You can place an order with our app and we’ll have whatever you ordered frozen and ready for you when you walk in.”

Kamenitzer said the all-natural, fresh-fruit ingredients Smoothie King uses for its menu items won’t leave you sluggish like many tasty treats that are stocked with sugar.
“You use 20% less energy digesting one of our smoothies than you would most other food options,” she said. “They’re perfect for a mid-day meal because they give you a burst of energy instead of sapping your energy.”
A typical Smoothie King drink is packed with 32 grams of protein and — check this out! — only 300 calories.
Fast favorites: Smoothie Bowls
Kamenitzer said the franchise’s Smoothie Bowls have been a smash hit so far because they are loaded with fresh berry-based ingredients and granolas.

“Probably the biggest reaction we’ve received from first-time customers so far has been: ‘It’s about time!’,” Kamenitzer shared, smiling. “The welcoming we’ve received from the community has been amazing!”
Kamenitzer said Smoothie King is dedicated to giving back to the communities in which they do business.
“For instance, we like to visit high school athletic directors and talk about nutritious post-game meals athletes should consume,” she said. “And we like delivering samples to teachers. We’re all about giving back.”
