Northville advances to district final by subduing rival Novi
Northville junior Addie Jones fires a shot at the net during the first half of Tuesday’s match with Novi.
Led by its talented group of seniors, Northville’s girls soccer team sidelined Baseline Road rival Novi, 6-2, Tuesday night in a hot and entertaining MHSAA Division 1 district soccer clash.
The Mustangs were powered by two goals each from seniors Lauren Yaquinto and Summer Larson, and single net-finders from seniors Clair Frush and Macy Gugala.
Northville freshman keeper was solid throughout, making one spectacular save while yielding second-half goals by Ella Schallmo and Emma Cho.
Making corners count
Although she gave up a six-spot to the Mustangs, Novi freshman keeper Emaleigh Scicluna flashed potential with multiple eye-popping goals.

The Mustangs scored twice off perfectly executed corners kicks. Yaquinto broke the scoreless match with a header in front off a nice corner from Taylor Morrison just less than five minutes into the contest.
Gugala’s second-half goal, which was the result of a textbook corner from freshman Julia Reddy, extended the winners’ lead to 6-1 with 11:05 remaining in the match.
Larson goals like lightning
Both of Larson’s goals were sizzling lasers struck from approximately 20 yards out.
Northville advances to play South Lyon East, which defeated Livonia Stevenson, 2-0, in Tuesday’s first semifinal game. The 8-8-2 Cougars dropped a 7-0 regular-season decision to Northville on April 17.
Northville, which improved to 16-1-1, will host Thursday district title match at 6 p.m. at Northville High School.
Novi finished 7-8-4.
