Metro-Detroit non-profit asks residents to adopt a family in need
As Volunteers of America Michigan (VOAMI) looks to help those in need this holiday season, the nonprofit is asking metro Detroit residents to help struggling Michigan families this holiday season.
VOAMI, which serves veterans, seniors and families in Michigan, opened the opportunity to nearly 3,000 Michigan families in need of being adopted this Christmas.
Throughout this annual Adopt A Family program, the nonprofit is asking the community to help support their neighbors in need by purchasing and delivering holiday gifts directly to families to help ease their stress and offer joy during this holiday season.
Families struggle to meet daily basic needs
Many families in Michigan struggle to meet basic needs every day, especially during the holidays, and this program is a powerful way to show them that their community cares.

The Michigan families who will be adopted have applied through Volunteers of America Michigan to be a part of this program.
As part of the sign-up to adopt a family, community members can read the family stories and see gift wish lists in this easy-to-adopt online program that runs through December 15.
“While the holidays should be a time of joy and celebration, it breaks my heart that for many families in Michigan this is such a difficult time of year,” said Aubrey Macfarlane, President and CEO of Volunteers of America Michigan.
“We have more families in need of adoption this year than ever before but am confident the community will step up to provide holiday happiness to them.”

People, businesses and organizations interested in adopting a family can visit www.voami.org/adopt-a-family/ to register, read stories about the families, review their gift wish lists, and select a family to adopt by clicking “Commit to Adoption” at the top of the page.
A confirmation email and instructions will then be sent to adopters who can reach out directly to the family to arrange a drop-off time, date and location. All gifts need to be delivered to the paired families by Dec. 19.
Since 1993, the Volunteers of America Michigan Adopt a Family program has been transforming lives by connecting individuals, teams, companies, and organizations with families in need.
This program ultimately bridges the gap between those facing hardships and those eager to make a meaningful impact.
