The Zekelman Holocaust Center (The HC) hosted its 41st Annual Benefit Dinner Nov. 9 at Huntington Place in Detroit, bringing together more than 1,400 guests in support of Holocaust education and combatting antisemitism across Michigan.

The evening honored Zina Kramer, civic leader, educator, and Holocaust education advocate, and celebrated the memory of her late husband, Michael Kramer, recognizing their lifelong commitment to strengthening Jewish life and preserving Holocaust memory.

In a deeply moving address, Zina shared her family’s remarkable story of survival, resilience, and gratitude. As the child of Holocaust survivors from the Kovno Ghetto in Lithuania, she reflected on her parents’ courage amid unimaginable loss — their escape from the ghetto, years of hiding, and eventual arrival in Detroit with nothing but hope determination, and gratitude.

Renowned guests

The program also featured Ambassador Deborah E. Lipstadt, renowned historian, author, and former U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, as keynote speaker.

Ambassador Lipstadt reflected on the enduring relevance of Holocaust education amid a rise in global antisemitism and emphasized the moral responsibility to stand up against hatred and distortion wherever they appear. “Ambassador Lipstadt reminded us that Holocaust education is not only about the past — it’s about shaping the conscience of the present,” said Rabbi Eli Mayerfeld, CEO of The Zekelman Holocaust Center.

‘Powerful call to action’

“Her words, combined with Zina Kramer’s lifelong dedication and energetic support for the work of The Centermade the evening a powerful call to action for everyone in the room.”

Funds raised from the 41st Anniversary Benefit will directly support The HC’s educational outreach, which engages more than 100,000 students, educators, and community members annually through exhibits, survivor testimonies, and professional development programs across Michigan.

The event included a cocktail reception, dinner, and program. For more information about The Zekelman Holocaust Center and upcoming events, visit www.holocaustcenter.org.
