SASHA Center’s Family Fun Day celebrates community involvement

The Family Fun Day will include free backpack give-aways and a bounce house.

Southeast Michigan’s SASHA Center recently announced its fifth annual Family Fun Day will return Aug. 23 from 1 to 5 p.m.

This event — organized for and by the community — will provide families with free school supplies and include a lively celebration, with bounce houses, games, food and refreshments and music spun by Detroit’s own DJ Cash Money.

This year’s gathering will also include a community wellness pop-up by Black Sage Collective’s Community Mobile Unit, with yoga, acupuncture, advocacy and counseling, blood pressure checks, mini facials and sound bath mediation for attendees to find healing and relaxation in.

Preparing kids for educational journeys

“We want to prepare our young ones and their families for their educational journeys this upcoming school year, while also celebrating the end of summer with our community, “said Kalimah Johnson, LMSW, ACSW, Founder/CEO and Executive Director of SASHA Center.

Free backpacks will be available for attendees

“In community is where we can best find support, healing and joy, so at SASHA Center, we strive to bring our neighbors together in welcoming spaces like this one.”

The celebration will take place in the parking lot of Avalon Healing Center (601 Bagley Street in Detroit).

School supplies, snacks available

Say Detroit serves as SASHA Center’s supporting community partner in this event. Vendors include Black Sage Collective, DV/SA Programs and Sno Biz Detroit.
