Work starts on replacing Ford Rd. eyesore with state’s first CAVA

Canton’s Ford Road Boston Market is on the verge of being replaced by CAVA, a fast-growing Mediterranean food restaurant.

The long-deteriorating building that was formerly a Boston Market located on the northwest corner of Ford and Morton-Taylor roads was the focus of a group of demolition specialists Friday afternoon.

A building permit taped to a window on the building confirmed the property will be converted into a CAVA restaurant — a fast-growing Mediterranean food eatery founded in Rockville, Maryland in 2006.

The Cava Group is recognized as the U.S.’s largest operator in the Mediterranean food category. The Cava location in Canton will be its first in Michigan.

Boston Market, once a prime fast-casual eating destination in Canton, closed in November of 2023.

CAVA’s mission: ‘Help more people eat well’

CAVA’s mission statement on its website is to, “Bring heart, health and humanity to food.”

“We believe in … serving delicious food that helps more people eat well and live well, taking care of the people and things that feed us: the earth, farmers, purveyors and teams members; and food as a unifier, for a more diverse yet inclusive world where all are welcome.”

According to ScrapeHero.com, there were 375 CAVA locations throughout the U.S. as of Jan. 12, 2025.

The restaurant’s menu is headlined by several healthy bowls, including ones featuring spicy lamb and avocado (795 calories), Falafel crunch (860 cals) and a chicken and rice dish (710 cals).

Pitas, too

A wide variety of pitas populate the menu, which also offers build-your-own bowls and pitas options.

Among the sides listed on the online menu include multiple flavors of hummus, harissa and eggplant.

Social House News reached out to CAVA in an effort to learn when a potential grand opening will take place; however, the restaurant’s media-relations team has not replied.
