WAIT IS OVER! Plymouth Big Boy reveals February grand opening

Following months of steadily-building anticipation, the owner of the Plymouth Big Boy located at 40835 Ann Arbor Road has announced his restaurant’s grand opening.

Doors will open at the freshly-renovated property on Monday, Feb. 12, at 7 a.m.

Owner Habib Baydoun revealed the restaurant’s menu will include a full complement of traditional Big Boy items — from the beloved Slim Jim and double-decker Big Boy to the brand’s popular fish & chips, spaghetti and desserts.

Baydoun also announced that his initial plans for a more fast-casual concept in Plymouth — with limited seating and no food-to-table service — was dramatically altered to a 17-table inside dining space with full table service, waitresses and a hostess.

“After careful consideration, we felt people wanted a full-service dine-in experience,” Baydoun explained.

“So, although our footprint is a little smaller than the traditional Big Boy restaurants, we will offer full service.

Multiple dining options

“In addition to the dine-in option, we will offer carry-out (the number for carry-out orders is 734-667-1179 beginning Feb. 12) and Door Dash.”

Baydoun has done a masterful job of decorating the interior of the space, filling it with images that will ignite nostalgic memories for longtime Big Boy fans — and youngsters who are new to the iconic restaurant.

Baydoun said one of the reasons for the delayed opening was the reconfigured expansion of the dine-in option.

“Since we first put our sign up months ago, we’ve had people calling left and right — knocking on our door — wondering when we were going to open,” he said, smiling. As he talked to a reporter Wednesday afternoon, a married couple knocked on the door, inquiring as to when the grand-opening date was.

“I am very excited that the opening date is almost here,” he said, relief in his voice. “It’s been a long journey with a lot of hard work and dedication.

Iconic brand

“The Big Boy brand has been around for 85-plus years; it’s an iconic American restaurant. We’re glad we could bring it back to Plymouth years after the original Plymouth Big Boy closed.”

Baydoun emphasized the freshness of the ingredients that will be used in the restaurants sauces and dressings.

“Everything is delivered daily from our commissary in Warren, Michigan, so we guarantee freshness,” he said.

Baydoun said his Big Boy will offer 10% discounts for senior citizens. He will also give discounts to medical professionals who work in the nearby Henry Ford Health facility that sits just south of his property.
