THE (WET) WAIT IS OVER! Canton aquatic center primed to re-open

The Summit on the Park lap pool is set to reopen Friday

The Summit on the Park’s aquatic center, part of Canton’s premier fitness and recreation destination since 1996, is set to reopen its five-lane pool on Friday (Dec. 15) for lap swimming only, as renovations to the center are nearly completed.

Summit members and guests will now be able to access only the lap pool: Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

As renovations are finalized, the aquatic center will reopen its remaining amenities on Thursday, Dec. 21, with open swim times available Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Swim lessons to return

During Plymouth-Canton Community Schools’ winter break from Dec. 23, through Jan. 6, 2024, additional open swim times will be available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  All swim lessons will also resume on Jan. 7, 2024, with limited registration currently available at www.summitonthepark.org.

Concluding construction projects may restrict public access to some aquatic center areas as renovations are finalized.

Additional renovations are still underway that will require the aquatic center hallway to remain closed, as well as the spa, sauna and steam room.

In addition, the large pool’s stairs will not be accessible; however, the chairlift for ADA access will be available.

In addition, the men’s and women’s locker rooms will be accessible; however, the family locker room will remain closed until Dec. 21. The inclusive locker room (formerly the special accommodations locker room) will also be open starting Dec. 15.

Exciting enhancements

This $2.4 million construction project encompassed tile replacement in all pools, including the lap pool and family pool, as well as on the pool decks.

In addition, the tile was also replaced in the spa and sauna, as well as in the men’s, women’s, family and inclusive locker rooms.

Further enhancements include the addition of a colorful six-foot tall Gum Drop water feature, as well as the painting of the pool deck roof.

A grand re-opening celebration will be held on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in the aquatic center.

Summit members and Canton residents will also be able to enjoy an open swim after the ceremony from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Although there is no fee to attend this open swim, pre-registration is required.

Online registration for this special open swim session is currently available, although spots are limited, at www.cantonfun.org/register with Code: AQ3510.

“Summit staff are eager to welcome back the community to our newly renovated Aquatic Center and thank them for their patience as we complete this important project,” stated Jason Lombardo, summit facility supervisor.

“This construction project is so important for the long-term life of the pool and will ensure that our aquatic center is enjoyed for years to come.”

27-year-old complex

Through Canton Township’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), managed by the Facilities Maintenance Division, the Summit on the Park can enhance existing recreational amenities, as well as provide essential updates to this 27-year-old community asset.

The Summit on the Park, located at 46000 Summit Parkway in Canton, remains a popular destination for area residents to utilize its many amenities.

The 13,340 square-foot aquatic center is home to a five-lane, 25-yard lap pool, zero-depth leisure pool with play features, lazy river and slide, as well as a steam room and sauna.
