SPLASH BASH: Festivities will celebrate re-opening of Canton playground
Improvements to Canton’s Splash Playground will be celebrated Thursday, July 6.
A cool answer to the summer heat is about to be officially unveiled at Canton’s Heritage Park, the jewel of the township’s recreational offerings.
On Thursday at 6 p.m. (festivities will commence at 5:30 p.m., township officials will host a special ribbon-cutting ceremony in celebration of the grand re-opening of Heritage Park’s Splash Playground, which was the focus of several recent improvements.
Significantly funded by a Wayne County Park Millage, the splash park was enhanced with the installation of a concrete picnic pad and four colorful shade structures that will allow visitors to take a break from the sun.
An accessible seating rock, waste and recycling receptacles, and a hydration station featuring a drinking fountain and water bottle refilling station were also added to the free attraction.
New and improved splash park
Open to visitors to Heritage Park daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the new and improved splash park will be celebrated with the ribbon-cutting ceremony that will be attended by Canton Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak, members of the Board of Trustees and various other township officials.
The celebration will kick-start what is anticipated to be an exciting night at Heritage Park as a concert featuring Brayden Lape — a 2022 finalist on NBC’s “The Voice” — is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Heritage Park Amphitheater.
Free ice cream
Thursday’s festivities will include a DJ and free ice cream to the first 150 attendees.
The splash park is located just east of the Summit on the Park. Parking is available next to the playground, just off Veterans Way.
