SLICE OF GOOD NEWS: Plymouth Domino’s opens
The commercial-business revival of Plymouth’s Ann Arbor Road gained another slice of momentum Wednesday — and it was covered with pepperoni and mushrooms.
The long-awaited opening of Domino’s Pizza at 1043 Ann Arbor Road unfolded Wednesday — a few months after a Scooter’s Coffee franchise opened at the intersection of Sheldon and Ann Arbor roads.
The Ann Arbor Road resurgence should continue later this year when Bartisan Handcrafted Cocktails & Fare is expected to welcome patrons just west of Domino’s.
“We’ve been getting calls for a few weeks from people asking if we’re open yet,” said Brooke Dolkowski, whose brother Aaron Dolkowski is the franchise owner. “They’re excited — and we’re excited — to finally to be able to tell them, ‘Yes, we’re open!'”
Shiny and new
The property — which previously hosted an AT&T service center and Quizno’s Sub Shop — is filled with shiny-new pizza-making equipment and an experienced staff, most of whom shifted to the new store following the closure of a Domino’s near Five Mile and Haggerty roads in Plymouth Township.
“One of the best things about this new site is that the staff doesn’t have to be trained — they’ve all done this for a while and they’re ready to go,” said Manager Matt Bacon. “They took really good care of the other store, but they’re all excited to be working in a space with entirely new equipment.
“If they see even a speck of dust somewhere, they’re like, ‘We have to get that’.”
Filling a void
The opening is pleasing to pizza lovers in general and Domino’s fans in particular given the closest Plymouth-Canton location to the new Ann Arbor Road site is near the intersection of Sheldon and Cherry Hill roads in Canton.
Bacon said the store will be announcing special offers within the next couple of weeks.
Bacon said he’d love to see the new Domino’s become a respected community fixture like the take-out eatery located almost directly across Ann Arbor Road.
“I’ve heard a lot about how Lee’s Chicken has built such a loyal following in the community, which is, ideally, what we would like to do over time,” he said.
Aaron Dolkowski founded AJD Pizza Management, LLC in January of 2016.
Domino’s was the brainchild of Tom Monaghan, who opened his first store in Ypsilanti in 1960. The company’s headquarters is located in Ann Arbor.
