Site of Plymouth’s closed Trading Post about to be re-energized
For decades, the Trading Post, located at 1009 Ann Arbor Road, was the go-to business for everything sports related for residents of Plymouth and surrounding communities.
Vacant since the family-owned business closed in 2022, the property is on the verge of being revitalized by the opening of Manno Clothing and Tailoring — a 50-year-old Dearborn-based business that specializes in business professional clothing, wedding fittings, custom suits and tailoring for men and women.
The building’s interior is currently undergoing a robust renovation.
The Manno backstory is impressive. More than 50 years ago, Leonardo and Lilla Manno — neither of whom spoke English at the time — moved from Italy to Dearborn to follow their dream of opening a high-end menswear store.
Thanks to their hard work and diligence over the years — and the continued vision of the following generations of the Manno family — the business steadily built a reputation as one of the finest stores of its kind in the Midwest.
Inspiring history
Now it’s on the verge of opening a location on Ann Arbor Road, which is on the rebound following a string of business closures over the past 10 years.
Among the high-end clothing brands the current Manno Dearborn location offers are: Hart & Schaffner Marx; Jack Victor; G. Manzoni; Lubiam; S.Cohen; TailoRED; and Holland and Sherry.
The Mannos’ son Pat eventually took over the store from his parents. Their grandson Anthony is currently listed as the business’s owner.
“Building lasting relationships with our clients and making sure they are confident in their appearance is what drives us to be excellent in everything we do,” Pat Manno said in 2017 when Manno Moderno — a contemporary clothing store for the modern gentleman — opened.
“In every aspect, clients can depend on our commitment to constantly improving. Quality isn’t something we do once in a while. It’s who we are.”
