Rochester Adams hands Salem 4-1 setback in regular-season finale

Salem senior Shom Mann dribbles through a pair of Adams defenders.
Rochester Adams entered Thursday night’s match at Salem with a modest 2-11-2 record (according to MHSAA.com), but the Highlanders looked like world-beaters against the banged-up Rocks.
Adams never trailed in its 4-1 road victory.

Salem started the match with three starters — Anthony Falsetta, Jacob Rider and Magliore Pop — in street clothes due to injuries. The Rocks also suffered two additional injuries during the match.
Shining moments for Rocks
The bright spots for Salem were the play of goal-keeper Peter Demetter, who made a series of diving stops, and Tyler Veresh, who hammered home the Rocks’ lone goal in the first half to slice a 2-0 Highlanders lead in half.
Trailing 2-1 early in the second half, Chase Lieb created a serious threat to deadlock the score for the hosts; however, his point-blank shot was denied by the Adams keeper wearing No. 1 (the Highlanders’ roster could not be found online).
The Rocks’ next contest is set for Oct. 8 when they play Livonia Franklin in an MHSAA first-round playoff game at one of the four P-CEP soccer venues.
