POWER OF LOVE: Canton 5K raises vital funds for kids with MD

An Army of Love (better known as Nathan’s Ninjas) took over Canton’s Heritage Park for a few hours Sunday morning.
Decked out in matching pink T-shirts, close to 200 big-hearted people walked five kilometers around the Heritage pond to raise money for Nathan’s Ninjas, all of whom are inspired every day by the courage and positivity of Canton resident Nathan Miller, who was diagnosed with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy in 2015.
Sunday’s 11th Annual Nathan’s Ninjas 5K raised $23,000 — money that will help pay Nathan’s medical needs, his favorite summer camp and other families whose sons are living with MD.
‘Beyond blessed’
“We are beyond blessed and grateful for the amazing Nathan’s Ninjas community that has stood beside us for 11 years,” said Andrea Miller, Nathan’s mom.
“We love this group of loyal and committed family members and friends who have made it an annual goal to be part of the family fun run and raise awareness and funds for Nathan’s needs and the needs of others like him.”
Previous Nathan’s Ninjas 5K’s have helped raise funds for a ramp installed at the Millers’ Canton home, a wheelchair van and a lift that makes it easier for Nathan to enjoy the family’s basement.
Optimism reigns in Miller family
The Miller family (parents Ryan and Andrea; and sons Nick and Nathan) are an inspiration for all who know them and how they have battled their son’s challenges with smiles and optimism.
Nathan, who is an integral part of the P-CEP radio station (88.1 The Park), will be a junior at Canton High School this fall.
We can all learn from the Millers how to make lemonade out of the lemons life randomly distributes.
