Plymouth golfer Abuel fires record-setting round at D1 regional

Lauren Abuel carded a school-record round of 69 at Tuesday’s Division 1 Regional golf tournament at Salem Hills.

During a recent interview, Plymouth junior golfer Lauren Abuel talked about how she plays each round shot by shot, forgetting the last one and focusing on the next.

That shot-by-shot mentality paid dividends for the long-hitting Wildcat, who earned medalist honors Tuesday at the MHSAA Division 1, Regional 3 competition at Salem Hills Golf Course in Northville Township.

Not only did Abuel fire an eye-popping round of 69, she defeated Northville’s Cam Baker in a three-hole playoff to secure medalist honors.

Abuel is one of three golfers in the 14-team field to move on to the state finals as an individual qualifier, joining White Lake Lakeland’s Abigail Ngo (77) and Salem’s Brooke Resovsky (78).

Northville’s Baker was joined by McKenzie Stevens (70), Kate Lis (75), Naaz Gill (76) and Stella Merko (87).

Rocks’ Resovsky shines

Salem placed fifth thanks to Resovsky’s solid 78 and Allison Mayer’s 93.

Canton finished 12th as as sophomore Genevieve Kline tallied a team-low score of 94.

Abuel is now in line to give Plymouth back-to-back state individual champions as Annie Flavin won the 2025 title.
