Plymouth church offers convenient Ash Wednesday service
Crunched for time on Wednesday — but you still want to partake in the centuries-old custom of having ashes applied in the shape of a cross to your forehead?
An innovative Plymouth church has perfected an ideal solution for you.
On Ash Wednesday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saint John’s Episcopal Church (574 S. Sheldon Road) will offer an Ashes-To-Go service on the drive-way that runs in front of its building.
People will be able to receive the sacrament without leaving their car.
For convenience sake
A Saint John’s spokesperson said in past years the church has serviced several parents of West Middle School students, which sits just north of the church, as they wait for their children to exit the school at the end of the school day.
The application of the ashes is accompanied by some variation of the words, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
Saint John’s will also offer two traditional Ash Wednesday services at noon and 7 p.m.
