P-CCS teachers to visit Zekelman Holocaust Center as part of statewide initiative

An exhibit at the Zekelman Holocaust Center in Farmington Hills.
More than 30 secondary school teachers from Plymouth-Canton Community Schools will visit The Zekelman Holocaust Center (The HC) on Thursday as part of a Michigan Department of Education grant on teaching diverse history.
The visit is part of the district’s ongoing place-based learning initiative, helping educators become more culturally competent and better understand the diverse backgrounds of their students.
Teachers will engage in a guided tour of The HC’s exhibits, participate in a workshop on teaching diverse learners, and collaborate on strategies for bringing inclusive historical education into their classrooms.
All teaching departments represented
Every teaching department in the district will be represented. Educators receive a stipend and a continuing education credit for attending.
The visit follows an October trip to the Arab American National Museum and will be accompanied by future visits to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and Southeast Asian cultural sites in Detroit.
Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is committed to ensuring teachers are culturally competent and equipped to teach a globally connected student body.
By learning from institutions like The HC, educators gain tools to help students understand history’s impact on the present and future.
