Critically-ill children and their families will be able to shout, “We’re going to Disney World!” thanks to a collaboration between Detroit media personality Jay Towers’ organization Jay’s Juniors and Michigan-owned Born in Detroit Apparel, LLC.

The local dynamos recently launched a limited-edition Jay’s Juniors apparel line. A portion of proceeds from this limited-edition endeavor will benefit Jay’s Juniors, a program that takes children and their families who are dealing with life-altering or life-threatening conditions to Disney World.

Jay’s Juniors was founded by Jay Towers, morning-show anchor on WJBK-TV (FOX) 2 and host of “Jay Towers in the Morning” on WNIC-FM 100.3 in Detroit.

Apparel is available for a limited time through July 31, 2023, at www.BornInDetroit.store.

‘Truly amazing’ mission

“Being able to bring happiness to all these children, along with their siblings, parents/caregivers, is truly amazing,” Towers said.

“Taking them on this trip that allows them to take their minds off everything else and just create memories of a lifetime, is why I started Jay’s Juniors.

“I am a huge fan of the Born in Detroit Apparel line, and I am always asked if Jay’s Juniors has apparel, so you can imagine how excited I am that for the first time ever, we will, and it is in collaboration with such a great brand.”

The limited-edition apparel is cobranded for Born in Detroit and Jay’s Juniors and features a variety of options for children and adults including sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, t-shirts, and tank tops; and several styles of hats, including flat bill, trucker and snapback.

Duffel bags and beach towels are also available.

Founded in 2014, Jay’s Juniors is a program that has provided hundreds of sick children over the years with a memorable family vacation during the holiday season. The trips are made possible through corporate donations.

Each year, local children who have life-altering or life-threatening conditions are nominated by family or friends within the community to be part of this experience of a lifetime.

They’re going to Disney World!

The large group of Jay’s Juniors children who are selected for the trip (along with their families) all take a thrilling trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, together.

Jay Towers and his WNIC-FM morning-show crew travel with the group and host the all-expense paid trip, which includes airfare, hotel rooms at the Disney resorts, park admission tickets and activations, food, spending money and — most importantly — happiness and memories for every member of the family.

Born in Detroit was trademarked in 2015 and brought to life in 2020 by a group of true Detroiters: two sets of brothers Michael and Anthony Tomey; and George and Alex Bourkoulas, along with their friend, Michael “Mikey” Shumaker.

The mission of Born in Detroit is to showcase the pride of Detroiters near and far, and to establish a brand to champion the city and surrounding communities.

Born in Detroit was created to honor that pride that Detroit is more than a city; it is that feeling of pride, hard work and perseverance.

You do not need to be born in Detroit, to be a proud “Detroiter”, the company emphasizes, and you can wear Born in Detroit to showcase to the world how much this city means to you.

Born in Detroit’s noble mission

Born in Detroit also has a mission to support charitable initiatives, especially ones that benefit those in need within the local communities.

“We are proud to partner with Jay Towers and honored to be able to support his initiative with Jay’s Juniors,” Anthony Tomey said. “Nothing is more important than family. Knowing that all these children will be able to have such a memorable experience with their families is truly heartwarming.”
