Historic The Village Club plans 70th anniversary summer party

The Village Club in Bloomfield Hills (190 E. Long Lake Road) has served as a home away from home since 1956 for thousands of accomplished metro-Detroit women who have found connection, camaraderie, philanthropy and purpose there.

The Club is extending an invitation to all current and legacy members to attend a spectacular soiree on Saturday, July 26, at a 70th Anniversary Kickoff Summer Party, the first in a series of special events planned to officially commemorate this milestone.

Attendees will reunite and reminisce while enjoying craft cocktails, food stations, live music, classic lawn games and more on The Village Club’s stunning outdoor Wyatt Terrace from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

‘Strong sense of sisterhood’

“The strong sense of sisterhood that has nourished the hearts, minds and lives of our members for almost 70 years is woven into the historic fabric of The Village Club,” said Joan Primo, president of The Village Club.

“Seeing members spanning seven decades come together to share memories, renew relationships and toast our proud past and bright future will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Tickets to the event are $74.95 per person (plus tax and service charge).

Guests welcome

Current and legacy members are welcome to bring guests. Reservations must be made by July 23 and are being handled by The Village Club General Manager, Stan Pena.

He can be contacted by email at generalmanager@thevillageclub.org or by phone at 248-644-3450, ext. 227.

Originally a private home owned by the Charles Winningham family, The Village Club (first named The Village Woman’s Club) was founded in 1956 as a charitable and educational organization with 30 charter members.

Famous members

Located on lush, rolling grounds with formal manicured gardens, valued members (who have included Matilda Dodge Wilson and Frances Kresge) enjoy casual and fine dining, empowering classes and lectures, unique programs, ongoing social activities, domestic and international group travel opportunities, networking, musical and theatrical performances, and more.

In 1983, The Village Club Foundation was formed as a separate philanthropic 501(c)(3) organization and has awarded approximately $4 million in grants to nonprofits in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties over four decades.
