Here’s what new Canton restaurant brings to the table

The JL Hudson Bistro opened last week on Ford Road in Canton.

From biscuits and gravy to mouth-watering sirloin burgers, Canton’s newest restaurant — JL Hudson Bistro — offers a robust menu of fresh and delicious offerings.

A mainstay in Commerce Township since 1985, JL Hudson Bistro opened last week in the space that formerly housed the short-lived Aussie Grill at 39707 Ford Road.

For those wondering if Canton’s newest bistro is related to the former downtown Detroit-based department store that closed in 1983, the answer is no.

But that doesn’t take away from the high-quality food cooked up by the JL Hudson brand with no periods after the J and L.

Something for everybody

Hudson’s menu is dominated by salads and sandwiches, but also includes bowls, appetizers, soups, all-day breakfast items and a kids menu.

With the exception of “Soup by the quart” ($16), every Hudson’s menu item costs $15 or less.

Among the menu items that stand out include the Famous Hudson Salad (lettuce, Julienne ham, poached chicken breast, swiss cheese, sweet pickles, red onions and tomatoes, and enhanced by the restaurant’s own Maurice dressing.

The selection and diversity of sandwiches is also impressive, including a classic reuben (corned beef, Swiss cheese, saurkraut and thousand island dressing sandwiched between two pieces of toasted pumpernickel bread.

Open daily

Among the a la carte items are sauteed spinach and house-made potato chips.

The biscuits and gravy meal is served with two eggs, toast and hash browns — all for a reasonable price of $9.

JL Hudson Bistro, which will be celebrating its grand opening in the coming weeks, is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
