Hallmark store relocating its Canton Township location

Canton’s last remaining Hallmark store will be opening Tuesday, July 2, at 1731 Canton Center Road.

Like most Hallmark Channel movies, there is a happy ending to the closing of Amy’s Hallmark located at 360 Lilley Road in Canton.

Amy’s is actually moving — not closing — to 1731 Canton Center Road, the former site of the B2 Outlet store that permanently closed earlier this year.

Situated in the same shopping complex as Kroger just southwest of the intersection of Ford and Canton Center roads, Hallmark is set to reopen at its new location on Tuesday, July 2.

The closest available Hallmark store to Canton is located at 37217 6 Mile Road in Livonia.

People still like to send, receive cards

Greeting card sales remain solid — even in an era when it’s more convenient to wish someone a happy birthday or joyous anniversary via social media or with a simple text.

According to greetingcard.org, Americans still purchase approximately 6.5 billion greeting cards each year, with 85% of the senders being females.

The annual retail sales of greeting cards are estimated to be between $7 billion and $8 billion annually, with the annual average spending on greeting cards per U.S. citizen at $29.

In addition to greeting cards, Hallmark stores sell party supplies, gift wrap and stationery, among other feel-good items.

The success of Canton resident Amy Henry’s Inklings Paperie greeting card-centric business that she operates out of the former Burroughs factory in Plymouth is proof that greeting cards are far from going the way of the dinosaurs and remain a great way for people to express feelings for their loved ones.

The hours of operation for Amy’s Hallmark were 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
