Gorman’s ‘Largest House Party’ returns to aid families in need
Gorman’s Home Furnishings and Interior Design announced the return of its annual “Michigan’s Largest Housewarming Party,” a community-wide donation drive supporting metro Detroit families transitioning into stable housing.
Now entering its third year, the initiative benefits Furniture Bank of Metro Detroit, Habitat Oakland ReStore, and United Community Family Services (formerly CALC), helping furnish homes with essential items that create comfort, dignity, and stability.
Beginning Tuesday, January 27, and continuing each Tuesday through February 24, Gorman’s will offer free, pre-scheduled furniture pickup throughout the metro Detroit area.
Donors may call or visit Gorman’s showrooms in Novi, Southfield, or Troy to schedule a pickup date and time.
‘Turning houses into homes’
“Our mission has always been about turning houses into homes,” said Jon Moray, CEO of Gorman’s. “The need for basic home furnishings remains significant, and the response from our community over the past two years has been overwhelming and meaningful.
This program provides a simple way for people to give furniture a second life while helping families create welcoming spaces they’re proud to call home.”
Moray noted that there is an especially large need for the donation of new household goods this year, too.
In addition to furniture, Gorman’s will collect new, unused household essentials including dish towels, oven mitts, small kitchen tools and appliances, measuring cups, bath towels and more to supply to its nonprofit partners.
Items can be dropped off at any Gorman’s showroom location, its warehouse, or the Three-Day Clearance Center in Farmington Hills during regular business hours. Hours and addresses are available at Gormans.com.
“We are incredibly grateful to Gorman’s and everyone participating in Michigan’s Largest Housewarming Party for supporting our Sharehouse Basic Needs Center,” said Arjan Kallou, COO of United Community Family Services.
Simple donations are meaningful
“Donations of everyday household essentials from towels and kitchen tools to small appliances may seem simple, but these essential comforts make a meaningful difference in upholding dignity and cultivating hope for our clients.”
Accepted furniture donations include sofas, chairs, kitchen tables, dressers, bed frames, bookshelves, and coffee or end tables. Smaller-scale furniture is especially needed. All items must be in good condition and free of rips, tears, and stains.
