FUN FACTORY: New Canton business takes DIY parties to next level
Take one step into Canton’s newest fun-infusing business and you will be feeling festive — guaranteed!
How could your endorphins not get hyped inside Modern Party Box — a two-week-old space that attacks your senses with balloons, flowers, desserts and a bright, uplifting atmosphere that is just what the happiness doctor ordered for rainy, gloomy November days (and for sunny summer days, too, for that matter).
Located at 43319 Morton Taylor Road, the mission of Modern Party Box is to take your next DIY party to the next level — something owner Kelly Beydoun perfected long before the Canton resident and mother of four opened her first brick-and-mortar space earlier this month.
Plenty of ambition
Beydoun’s entrepreneurial spirit was cooked up with several spoonfuls of hustle and ambition.
After learning how to bake and design her own mind-blowing desserts by attending two classes at Michael’s and watching how-to YouTube videos, Beydoun launched Kelly’s Cake Crumbs, an eight-year-old business that caters to dessert-loving people (translation: everyone).
“I felt like I was getting robbed every time I bought a cake,” Beydoun quipped, smiling. “So I learned how to do it myself.”
Party planner
During her pre-Modern Party Box days, Beydoun, who said she has been “arts-and-craftsy” for as long as she can remember, also found pleasure in organizing banquets for her kids’ athletic teams, and family and friends’ bridal and baby showers.
“I learned how to put together dessert tables for banquets and gatherings, and people eventually asked me if I could help them plan their parties,” Beydoun said. “One day, someone asked me, ‘Do you do balloons?’ I didn’t, but I taught myself how to put together pretty cool balloon displays.”
Beydoun started collecting party-enhancing props that she used to spruce up her clients’ parties.
Chuckling, she said: “Our basement was so full of my party-rental stuff, my husband joked, ‘We’re getting a divorce if you don’t get this stuff out of here’.”
The next chapter
A short time later, the Beydouns were on the hunt for a space to lease for Kelly’s party business.
They ultimately settled on the property located in the Coventry Commons business complex, which is located on Morton Taylor, just south of Joy Road.
“I noticed that a lot of new businesses were opening in this complex, so when this spot opened up (it was the former site of a Benjamin Moore paint store), I told my husband we should jump on it,” Beydoun said.
“I love it here. The other business owners in the complex have walked in and introduced themselves … everyone is so welcoming.”
Your go-to party place
Modern Party Box not only offers every accessory you’ll need to make your next get-together the talk of the town, Beydoun will help design your celebration space in the comfort of her new place.
“I have a table set up in the front of the store where I can show customers how to set everything up,” she said. “I help them pick out vases for the tables, where to place everything. I’ve always loved helping people.
“People will buy accessories for their parties, then once the party is over, what do they do with them? Nothing. So they can come to me, I’ll rent the accessories to them for one-quarter of what they’d buy them for. I’m helping them and they’re helping me.”
The list of what Modern Party Box offers is plentiful: photo backdrops, balloon arches, furniture props, kids birthday party packages, food/dessert stands, faux floral arrangements and cakes, to name a few.
“I’ve done everything from wedding and baby showers to 40th and 50th birthday parties,” Beydoun said.
Fabulous feedback
The reaction from customers who check out her business for the first time has been amazing, Beydoun said.
“Everyone who has walked in — especially the women — has said, ‘Oh my gosh! I love it!'” she said. “They tell me they could just sit in here for hours.
“We definitely have the party vibe in here.”
And parties equate to happiness — Beydoun’s trademark.
