Expansion brewing for popular Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters
Founded in 2009 as a Rochester Hills-based family business, Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters’ cup is overflowing with good vibes as the popular coffee brewing and dessert-making business is set to expand to Ferndale.
With locations already established in Rochester Hills, Royal Oak and Detroit, Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters will celebrate the grand opening of its new company headquarters and flagship café location in Ferndale (927 Hilton Road) on Friday, July 7, at 5:30 p.m.
The full day of activities will include a ribbon cutting with the City of Ferndale, a latte “art throwdown,” cake cutting and a party in the evening after closing.
The event starts at 2 p.m., with a public coffee cupping.
‘Important milestone’
“This is an important milestone in our company’s growth, as we also mark our 14th anniversary, thanks to both our talented leadership team and staff, as well as our wonderful customers,” said Dessert Oasis President Nathan Hamood.
“Ferndale is an outstanding city and business community that fosters entrepreneurial companies like ours, with its creativity, ethos and community focus. While this will be a more centrally located headquarters for us to support future growth, our goal in Ferndale is to be the best neighbor and community member we can be.”
A public coffee cupping event will commence at 2 p.m. followed by the ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. A cake-cutting ceremony is set for 6 p.m. with a Latte art throw-down scheduled for 8 p.m. (sign-up begins at 7 p.m.).
More than $1,000 in cash prizes will be presented thanks to sponsors Pacific Foods, Slayer Espresso and Roast Magazine. Additional event sponsors include Hario, Visions Espresso, Eight Ounce Coffee Supply, Created Co., Esthetics by Jenn, North Peak and Jolly Pumpkin.
Passion for coffee and community
Through a passion for coffee and community, DOCR evolved its business model over the years to become what it is today — a craft coffee roaster with brick-and-mortar retail stores, that bakes all its own desserts, hosts live music and seeks to be a community gathering place.
“We believe growth of the company should only serve the purpose of bettering what we do as a company, achieving the best possible products and customer service, while providing opportunities for our people to grow their careers in coffee,” Hamood noted.
The company obtains its coffees from small quality driven farms around the world, sourced ethically and with the farm’s best interests in mind. The goals are longer term relationships and partnerships that not only deliver the highest quality coffees, but sustain coffee and its people as an industry both locally and globally.
Widespread recognition
Hamood was recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business for his passion for coffee, business acumen and commitment to the community by being included in Crain’s 20 in their 20s Class of 2021.
The company has also earned accolades in national Roasting and Barista competitions.
