Ex-Canton High A.D. Farkas secures similar position in SE Michigan
After serving as Canton High School athletic director for approximately 18 months, Kristen Farkas was appointed the Trenton (Mich.) Public Schools athletic director for grades 6 through 12 during the June 24 TPS board of education meeting.
Farkas will start her new job July 1, according to the TPS board of education minutes.
Farkas was hired by Plymouth-Canton Community Schools in November of 2022. She succeeded Vernon Crump.
Not long after she was hired, Farkas was tasked with hiring a new varsity head football coach and helping Canton transition to a new mascot and nickname (from Chiefs to Cobras).
Oversaw the hiring of 2 football coaches
Following the 2023 season, Casey Bess, who Farkas hired in early-2023 for the head football coaching position, resigned for personal reasons, setting the stage for the hiring of Eric Newton as the Chiefs/Cobras new football coach.
She also helped guide the school’s gymnastics program through the unexpected death of beloved longtime coach John Cunningham just days before the 2023 season commenced.
Prior to coming to Canton, Farkas was the athletic director for Escanaba Area Schools in 2021 through the time she was hired by Canton in November 2022.
Farkas was an elementary and middle school math/science teacher in the Dearborn Public Schools system from 2004 to 2021.
She earned both bachelor of arts and a master’s degree at the University of Michigan Dearborn.
