Escape to Belle Isle will return Saturday, July 18, for its 18th annual race series benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Detroit.
The event will take place at Belle Isle Casino and feature a 2-mile, 5K, 10K and Kids Fun Run.
All proceeds from Escape to Belle Isle support the overall work of Ronald McDonald House Detroit and its efforts to assist families and children receiving medical care.
Housing for parents facing challenging times
By alleviating heavy financial stress, Ronald McDonald House Detroit allows parents to stay at their child’s bedside.
“Ronald McDonald House Detroit provides a home away from home for families while their child receives medical care,” said Jenna Greenman, Race Director.
“For a sick child, there’s nothing better than the comfort of having mom and dad at their side. For mom and dad, there is comfort, support and a place to call home.”
Ronald McDonald House Detroit provides housing, meals and other services to families whose children are receiving medical care at local hospitals.
Summer tradition in Detroit
For nearly two decades, Escape to Belle Isle has become a summer tradition for Detroiters. The event brings together the community while raising funds for Ronald McDonald House Detroit and the families it serves.
“Escape to Belle Isle is more than just a race, it’s an opportunity for our community to come together in support of families navigating a child’s medical journey,” said Kelly Klemmer, Director of Marketing & Development, Ronald McDonald House Detroit.
“The participants, sponsors and volunteers help us provide comfort, care and a way to create a home for families when they need it most.”
Scenic course
Participants will begin and end the race at Belle Isle Casino and enjoy a scenic course through Belle Isle while supporting programs that help provide housing, meals and other resources for families whose children are receiving medical care.
All participants will receive an event T-shirt. Finishers in the 5K and 10K races will receive medals, and awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers from each race.
Participants of all ages and experiences are encouraged to attend and support the cause. Walkers, strollers and dogs are welcome.
