If you’re looking to clear out some Thanksgiving morning calories on the morning of the biggest meal of the year, Canton’s 24th Annual Turkey Trot For a Cause could be just the answer.

The annual 5K that benefits the Michigan Epilepsy Foundation is set for November 26 at Heritage Park, with the start and finish lines situated in the shadow of the Summit on the Park.

In 2025, participants ranged in age from 4 to 87 — some of them wearing eye-catching turkey hats and full-body turkey costumes.

Canton family makes event an annual tradition

Among the runners in 2025 were three members of Canton’s Hoban family — dad John and sons Liam and Jack.

“Last year (2024) we participated for the first time because we wanted to run in a turkey trot and this one was close to home,” said John Hoban, moments before the 2025 event. “Prior to last year’s event, we learned how powerful  and moving this turkey trot is … it gave us a better understanding about what this  race is all about, which is why we signed up again this year.”If you want to text the CSC Turkey Line 734-756-8383 we can do your registration with credit card already on file or we can call you by phone.

There are multiple ways to register for this year’s race .

“If you want to text the CSC Turkey Line 734-756-8383 we can do your registration with credit card already on file or we can call you by phone,” revealed Ann-Marie Carravallah, Canton Leisure Services sport coordinator. “Try to register by Halloween, but remember the guarantee shirt cut-off date is November 10.

Proceeds go to great cause

The cost of the Turkey Trot’s 1-mile run and virtual run is $32. The entry fee for the 5K is $40, with all proceeds going to the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan.

The 1-mile race will start at 9 a.m. with the 5K set to commence at 9:30 a.m.

In addition to helping a great cause, Pioneer Middle School student Jack Hoban said last year he enjoys running in the 5K portion of the race for other reasons.

“Later today, if someone tells me to slow down on eating so much pumpkin pie, I can tell them, ‘I already ran today. I’m fine’,” he said, smiling.
