Children’s Hospital’s ‘Snowpile’ gift-giveaway lifts spirits of patients, families

A patient at Children’s Hospital of Michigan is held by her mother after receiving Christmas gifts through the hospital’s Snowpile project.
The holiday season can be a stressful time for families with small children — even when the children are not patients being treated for serious illnesses at Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
For those families whose children are inpatients at Detroit’s Children’s Hospital, Christmastime is made easier thanks to the volunteers and hospital staff who organize the annual Snowpile program, which allows caregivers of patients in the hospital to rest a little easier during the season.
Focus on entire families

Snowpile, which is sponsored by The Children’s Foundation, focuses on the entire family, providing gifts for hospitalized children and their siblings.
The amazing event, which unfolded Wednesday at Children’s Hospital, is the highlight of the holiday season for patients, patients’ families, volunteers and CHM staff. Snowpile impacts maany patients and families, helping to create special memories during a special time of year.
Patients’ parents or guardians “shop” for free for the patient and their siblings from thousands of new toys and gift items that have been donated by the community. They then take the gifts to stations where they will be wrapped for holiday giving.
Community members who still wish to donate gifts, which are shared throughout the year with patients, can use the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Amazon Wishlist by clicking here.
