Hyundai Motor America and Children’s Hospital of Michigan are hosting their second car seat safety check event at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center, across from the main hospital in Detroit, to promote child passenger safety in the community.

To kick off the event, Hyundai will donate $25,000 to the Children’s Foundation in support of the hospital’s Injury Prevention Program with an official check presentation.

Research shows improper use and installation of child safety seats is a leading factor in increased child fatalities or injuries from automobile crashes.

Many car seats incorrectly installed

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half of all car seats are installed incorrectly.

During the inspection, nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will inspect car seats for expiration, manufacturer recalls, and proper fit.

Families will receive a free car seat replacement, if needed. The car seat check event is open to the public – walk-ups are welcome. Child must be present for inspection and free car seat.

The event will be held Saturday, May 3. Check presentation will run from noon to 12:30 p.m.; and car seat safety check event will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center (across the street from the main hospital) is located at 3950 Beaubien Blvd, Detroit.
