Canton’s Panda Express so close to opening, you can taste it
Canton’s first Panda Express is set to open Monday at 45747 Michigan Ave.
Construction workers could be seen Friday afternoon putting the final cosmetic touches on Canton’s newest fast-food restaurant: Panda Express, which opens Monday with a 9 a.m. Canton Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Located at 45747 Michigan Ave. (on the south side of the road, just west of Canton Center Road), the Panda Express franchise promotes itself as: “Where Chinese flavors and American tastes meet.”
The franchise boasts over 2,200 locations, making it the largest Asian-segment restaurant chain in the United States.
The chain is known for its variety of American-Chinese dishes, including orange chicken, sweet fire chicken breast, Beijing beef, grilled teriyaki chicken and Kung Pao chicken.
Panda Express also offers a limited menu of premium dishes like honey walnut shrimp and black pepper Angus steak.
Welcome to fast-food lane
Situated just north of the Walmart parking lot, Panda Express joins a string of fast-food chain restaurants along the south side of Michigan Ave., including Panera Bread and Chipotle.
The closest Panda Express locations to the Canton site are at 26641 Ford Road in Dearborn Heights, 13701 Middlebelt Road in Livonia and 26150 Novi Road in Novi.
Panda Express restaurants were initially found primarily in shopping mall food courts. In addition to stand-alone restaurants, the chain now operates franchises in university cafeterias, casinos, airports, military bases, amusement parks and other venues.
The brand’s traditional hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Sundays; and 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
Gluten-free options
Panda Express does offer a limited gluten-free menu that includes steamed rice, grilled Teriyaki chicken, string bean chicken breast, broccoli beef and eggplant tofu.
Panda Express is not halal, which means it is not permissible for Muslims to consume food from this restaurant chain, as it does not meet Islamic dietary guidelines, according to halamorharamguide.com.
