Canton icers bounce back with dubs after letting 3-1 lead slip away

Canton’s Will Ott unleashes a shot Wednesday night against Livonia Red.

After watching its 3-1 first-quarter lead melt away, Canton’s hockey team bounced back mightily Wednesday night against Livonia Red.

The Stallions rallied to knot the game at 3-3 thanks to goals from Jake Sturgeon and Dezmond Medina, but it was all Cobras over the final 20 minutes and change.

Matthew Falkenberg (from Dylan Parrish and Sam Spirl) gave the Cobras the lead for good, 4-3, with a net-finder at the 3:15 mark of the middle stanza.

Insurance pays dividends

Parrish (from Spirl) and Brody Kocurek (from Carson Kouba and Kevin Jariett netted insurance goals in the third period.

Gavin Simmons gave the hosts a 1-0 lead six minutes into the game thanks to helpers from Will Schley and Kocurek.

The Stallions answered three minutes later when Medina deposited an unassisted lamp-lighter.

Stallions prove resilient … for a while

Canton appeared to take control later in the first on goals from Kouba (from Jariett and Paolo Decina) and John Nickel (from Schley) before the Stallions mounted a comeback.

Liam Simmons was solid in goal for the winners, while Livonia Red’s Haiden Boyd made several key stops.
